One notable aspect is our members' makeup routines is varied based on the occasion.

Question: Donna, what suggestions do you have for beauty box club members regarding the best treatments for our top two combination skin types?

Donna's Reponse:

One common issue I often see with women is that they are unsure of their skin type and what products to choose. And the other problem is they tend to use too many products in their routine.

Here is a quick two simple steps to diagnose if you are oily dry or dehydrated.

1. To determine your skin type, here is an easy way to diagnose your combination type. If the area on your forehead, nose and chin (also known as the t-zone) is larger and only leaves smaller dry areas on the outer cheeks, we would classify you as having oily skin. On the other hand, if your t-zone is thinner and the cheek area is larger than the t-zone, we would classify you as having dry skin

2. To check if your skin is dehydrated, gently lift the skin on your cheek with the back of your finger. If there are many lines, your skin needs hydration.

Always make sure you are purchasing products that are suited to your skin type. Remember your skin is your largest organ of your body and needs to be treated with care and gentleness, and as you take care of your skin you are taking care of your soul.

Moisturizers, with 93% of respondents using them
Serums, with 81% of respondents incorporating them into their skincare routine

Donna’s Response:

I always recommend these 3 things every skin needs to do correctly and getting these steps correct with the right products for your skin will make a lot of your skin issues disappear.

Cleansing – Knowing how to correctly clean your skin is paramount to having healthy skin that glows and is balanced. Avoid stripping the skin and don’t use foaming cleansers/ soaps and wipes.

Exfoliating - physical exfoliation performed once to twice weekly will stop skin cell buildup. This improves pore size, quick spot healing, fine lines and wrinkles and better moisturiser absorption.

Moisturising - hydrate and protect the skin during the day and nourish and replenish at night. I love a face oil and face cream moisturising combination for dry combination skin and Face Oil for both morning and night for oily combination skins.

Moisturisers

As we finish summer in Australia, I know most skins will need more hydration, especially oilier skins. Our Balancing Lavender Face Oil will help plump every skin type and prepare it for the cooler weather. The moisturising properties of this oil through hydration will clear excess oil flow, and reduce the depth of open pores. And give every skintype that summer glow.

Serums

"I highly recommend our water-based Anti-Aging Papaya Enzyme Extract for those looking to add specialty care for aging skin. This product gently lifts and brightens the complexion with natural vitamins, while also turning over dead cell build-up that can cause breakouts and stagnant scarring from previous breakouts. It also softens both fine lines and deeply etched wrinkles."

Sheet Masks

Sheet Masks definitely have their place in skincare but they are overused in most peoples routine. They are a quick hit of moisture I would recommend a Leave On Mask that they can add to the skin at a deeper and longer level, our Leave On Collagen Mask can be slept in or left on while watching TV or even used as a primer under makeup.

Exfoliation

I am a big fan of a physical exfoliant. Cells naturally shed every 28 days when they are young and healthy – but life often disrupts this and naturally the process is as we age. I recommend picking the same day each week (mine is Saturday morning) and that’s when I will exfoliate. If I have a special occasion, I make sure to exfoliate 2 days before the event.

Donna’s Final Tip

A final word on wrinkles – something none of us want! I Your products need not to just have the right ingredients but the right application to get the best results. These are 2 things I am adamant about to counteract wrinkles. NEVER use Cream on your eye or throat areas, only use specialty Oils.
